OSMECON, the annual International Undergraduate Medical Conference, is the flagship event of Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad. The 13th edition of this conference was held from 29th September to 1st October 2023.
OSMECON 2023 started on a great note with the Inaugural Ceremony. Dr. D Nageshwar Reddy, the Chairman and Director of the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Hyderabad was the Chief Guest for the conference. His inaugural address was thoroughly inspiring as he emphasized on the small yet highly vital 10 pieces of advice that he would like young medicos to remember and follow throughout their journey in this profession.
The esteemed Founder-Convenor of OSMECON, Dr. M Pari Plavi graced the inaugural ceremony with her presence and her inspiring address. Without the efforts and dedication of Dr. Pari Plavi, OSMECON wouldn't have risen to such great heights. The ceremony was also graced by the presence of The Principal of Osmania Medical College, Dr. P Shashikala Reddy and many distinguished faculty members of Osmania Medical College.
Day 1
Day 1 saw a flock of medicos from different cities and states gather on the campus of the high-demand Workshops that take center stage each year. The 12 diverse workshops that were conducted by the faculty of Osmania Medical College helped students refine their clinical skills and provided them with hands-on experience. Of all the workshops, for the first time ever in OSMECON, in the Forensic Medicine Workshop, a live courtroom scenario roleplay was done to understand the finer details of the legal procedures of our system. A model crime scene was also set to explain the tracing and importance of clues at a crime scene.
Day 2
Day 2 was filled with enthralling events such as Case, Paper and Poster presentations, with the main goal being a new experience to learn, pursue research and inculcate a competitive spirit and oh my they left us all amazed!
Exciting and challenging events like The Medquiz, Dare to Diagnose and the Diogenes Club Debate saw huge participation by the delegates but only a handful could make their way to the finals to win the coveted title.
To get rid of the monotony, fun events such as Shuttermedics, Invictus, Graphilia and Art Attack were conducted online to provide a platform for medicos to showcase their creative side.
Last but not least the Medical Symposium, across all three days, not only glued the audience to their seats but also left us all pondering on issues of socio-medical importance. The experience was nothing short of extraordinary as each audiovisual presentation left a mark on our hearts. The finesse and expertise with which all the delegates presented their work was mind-blowing.
On Day 2, we were honoured to have Dr. Sairam Reddy Palicherla, the CoFounder and Chief Scientific Officer UrbanKissan and the Director of Heartfulness as the Guest Speaker for the 13th edition. The guest lecture focused on key modern farming techniques for a more sustainable future- Let Food be thy medicine.
Day 3
On Day 3 of the event, the Final Round for most events were held where the finalists put their best foot forward in each competition. The stage was all set, the air was filled with excitement, nervousness, cheer, and fierce competitive spirit and the adrenaline rush took over both the finalists and the audience alike.
We are grateful to our esteemed Principal, Dr.P Shashikala Reddy Ma'am for her continual support, advice and guidance throughout the conference.
All in all, OSMECON 2023 was a grand success with a huge delegate participation, the highest so far, from various states and even from other countries.
